Having the confidence to acknowledge skills or subject weakness and turn them into strengths is just one way that a current Digital Transformation Programme student managed to land their new dream job.
Words from a current Digital Transformation Programme student
“After only 2 weeks in the programme I had started to ask myself, what are the things that I’m scared of and why am I avoiding these things?
The DTP helped to shine a light on the elements of my mindset that I wasn’t facing up to. The early on Personal Branding & Intrapreneurship workshops made me look at situations in my life and ask questions. I wrote down what I wanted to work on and took the time at home to build resilience to the negative aspects of my career.
I realised that I was not the only one who didn’t know everything, I didn’t have to avoid situations. I could be assertive and directly change how I dealt with these situations.
This change in attitude has been incredible. Jobs that I wouldn’t normally have applied for, I was confident to take on. My new-found resilience and mindset have made me stronger when it comes to the interview process also. I walked in feeling strong and confident. Any areas of weakness in my skill set or experience, I was able to counter with my ability to go and learn. The programme has proven that I can learn new skills and build on these at home, any weaknesses have become strengths and I was judged on my ability as a person.
I am now in a dream job that 4 months ago I would never have applied for. I’m feeling confident about myself, confident in my ability to do the job and less worried about any gaps in skillset that may arise over the coming months, even years.
A lack of something is no longer a weakness for me.”
Student of the Digital Transformation Programme
In June 2018 we began the first ever training sessions of the This is Milk Digital Transformation Programme
One of our first students, was a lead Business Analyst with over 17 years of experience. This is what Pamela had to say about her time training with This is Milk.
"Earlier this month I had the opportunity to complete the Business Requirements and Associated Methods training course which was run by This is Milk as part of their Digital Transformation programme.
I have been a Business Analyst for a about 17 years, and was intrigued to go on the course to brush up on my skills and also to hopefully learn something new. I came away completely re-enthused and wanting to learn more.
The course is open to anyone who wants to understand more about the art of eliciting business requirements. There were a number of different skillsets represented with Product Owners and Project Managers also on the course.
The course covered a number of techniques which could be used to elicit business requirements in different circumstances. Many of these techniques were new to me, a seasoned BA! For me, a good example would be, Jobs to be Done and Empathy Mapping. While in depth information was not given on these, enough information was provided to help understand what they were and when they would be useful.
Angela, the MD of This is Milk, delivered the course wonderfully and you could tell she has lived and breathed the requirements gathering process, which was refreshing and also led to some candid discussions about situations where things went well or not so well. Often training courses are run by qualified trainers who don't always have real life experience of the subject being delivered but her substantial background in the field certainly enriched the whole course.
All in all, an excellent course and I can't go wait to do more. I would definitely urge anyone who is a BA, even those who think they have nothing left to learn, to take part as I am sure they will be surprised and come away feeling that they have gained a lot. "
