In June 2018 we began the first ever training sessions of the
This is Milk Digital Transformation Programme
Earlier this month I had the opportunity to complete the Business Requirements and Associated Methods training course which was run by This is Milk as part of their Digital Transformation programme.
I have been a Business Analyst for a about 17 years, and was intrigued to go on the course to brush up on my skills and also to hopefully learn something new. I came away completely re-enthused and wanting to learn more.
The course is open to anyone who wants to understand more about the art of eliciting business requirements. There were a number of different skillsets represented with Product Owners and Project Managers also on the course.
The course covered a number of techniques which could be used to elicit business requirements in different circumstances. Many of these techniques were new to me, a seasoned BA! For me, a good example would be, Jobs to be Done and Empathy Mapping. While in depth information was not given on these, enough information was provided to help understand what they were and when they would be useful.
Angela, the MD of This is Milk, delivered the course wonderfully and you could tell she has lived and breathed the requirements gathering process, which was refreshing and also led to some candid discussions about situations where things went well or not so well. Often training courses are run by qualified trainers who don't always have real life experience of the subject being delivered but her substantial background in the field certainly enriched the whole course.
All in all, an excellent course and I can't go wait to do more. I would definitely urge anyone who is a BA, even those who think they have nothing left to learn, to take part as I am sure they will be surprised and come away feeling that they have gained a lot.
